Noel Helps NAS Dungannon Support Families Challenged by Autism

Noel is delighted to announce that he has set up a new voluntary partnership with the National Autistic Society (NAS) Dungannon branch to help bring professional advice to families with children on the Autism Spectrum.

He recently attended as a guest speaker at the weekly NAS support group in Dungannon library where he gave an insightful talk on the topic of ‘Addressing Autism through the Visual System’.

The driving force behind NAS Dungannon is passionate local mum, Daphney Scott whose 10 year old son, Nathan was diagnosed with ASD as a toddler. Daphney was determined to help set up a locally based service for families affect by Autism and together with a number of like-minded lcal mums, started ‘whizz kids club’ in 2014. The proactive charity has gone from strength to strength, launching a new ‘connecting carers’ group in September 2015, as well as regular fundraising events.

Noel is proud to help support the fantastic work that NAS Dungannon do in the Mid Ulster community and says,

“I have worked closely with many children with ASD over the past 10 years and have found that 60-70% of individuals on the Autism Spectrum present multi-sensory problems with their sight, touch, smell, hearing and taste. The parents at the NAS group identified these issues but were surprised to learn that many ASD symptoms can be addressed very effectively through the eyes.

Sharing my knowledge with the group was a very rewarding experience and I look forward to working with Daphney and her passionate team again very soon.”
